10 Step Korean Skincare
We have laid down one step at a time followed in the Korean skincare routine.
Read on each step to know the benefits and how you can achieve crystal clear skin.
STEP 1: Use An Oil Cleanser
A skincare must is to remove all the makeup from your skin. An oil-based cleanser will help break all the makeup you wore, in no time. Lightly massage the oil-based cleanser all over your face and neck.
You can use a cotton pad too. After massaging the cleanser all over your face, neck and lips, wipe it off with the cotton pad and then splash some warm water on it.
Massaging the oil cleanser with water removes the makeup well and makes your face look fresh and clean.
STEP 2: Follow Up With A Water-based Cleanser
Once done with an oil-based cleanser, get ready for step no.2 with water-based cleanser.
If you think this is just an extra step, hold on! A water-based cleanser will remove the makeup (maybe) left behind by the oil- cleanser.
The process remains the same, massage the water-based cleanser on to the face and neck, gently in circular motion.
This extra step of using a water-based cleanser works as a deep cleansing for the skin.
Wash off with water and pat dry.
A water-based cleanser will not strip skin’s natural oils, thus helping the skin maintains its oils and not drying it down.
STEP 3: Exfoliate
Exfoliation is a great way to remove dead skin which sits as a topmost layer of our skin.
Exfoliation or scrubbing method helps the skin to rejuvenate and remove the dead layer of the skin.
It also helps in smoothening the skin and giving a radiant effect.
To undergo exfoliation there are exfoliators to do the job. There are two types of exfoliators, physical and chemical.
Koreans uses the physical type of exfoliator. It contains microbeads which gently removes the dead skin.
To use an exfoliator, wet your face and gently start scrubbing your face in a circular motion.
Make sure not to overdo it, it can burn or sensitize your skin. Wash it off and pat dry.
For normal, dry or oily skin type it is advisable to use twice weekly but if you have sensitive skin, use it only once a week.
STEP 4: Use A Toner
Toner is an excellent product for oily skin people but for Korean, it is a game changer.
Toner refreshes the skin and maintains the skin’s pH level. With constant makeup and all the different skincare products we use, our skin’s pH gets disturbed.
Toner help in balancing the moisture level and remove any impurities left behind by the cleansers.
Toner can be applied to the skin by taking a small amount on a cotton pad and dab it on the skin.
Koreans use the toner seven times!!
Yes, that may sound bizarre, but toner does wonder to your skin, no wonder Korean ladies have crystal clear skin.
STEP 5: Use Essence- A Korean Special
Essence is unique to Korean skincare regime. An essence is a hydrating and lightweight formula which is a hybrid of skin treatment and a serum.
It rejuvenates the skin by boosting it with hydration and fights with ageing factors such as wrinkles, sagging, etc.
Essence has high potency, so you need just a few drops. Pat some drop of the essence on the skin with the help of fingers and see the difference by yourself.
STEP 6: Spot Treatments
Spot treatments are for matured skin or skin which need the extra care. Choose your spot treatment on the basis of what your skin needs the most.
Dark spots, pigmentation, acne spots, uneven skin tone are some of the common issues which need attention.
Choose among various gel, creme or ampoules based spot treatments best suited for your skin treatments.
Again spot treatment skincare is highly potent and you need just a tiny little drop.
As the name suggests, just spot treat the skin issue and let it dry completely. The spot treatments boost the skin cells by targeting the skin to repair the problem areas.
STEP 7: Sheet Masks For The Added Love
Another Korean special is sheet masks, they look good for Insta-worthy pictures but they serve a purpose too.
Sheet masks are essentially soaked in the goodness of serum and essence of the ingredients used in it.
Sheet masks are soothing and calming on the skin. Choose a sheet mask according to what your skin needs at the moment. There is sheet mask for every skin type and concern.
Sheet masks allow you to relax for 15-20 minutes. Relax by applying the face sheet mask, just don’t let it dry, and remove after 15-20 minutes. Sheet masks are a great way to pamper yourself in a hurry since cleanup and facials do take a lot of time.
STEP 8: Eye Cream
Now the actual skincare regime takes the wheel. Our under eye skin is the most sensitive skin on our face and it needs all the care and attention it deserves.
Eye creams are best to take care of your skin around the eyes. Dark circles, pigmentation, wrinkles and crow’s feet are some of the skin issues related to the under eyes health.
Choose one for your need and apply in dots not very close to the eye. It can harm your eyes.
Eye creams protect, hydrate and repair the under eye area. They can instantly brighten up the under the eye and make you look that you had your 8 hours beauty sleep. It can be used both in morning and night time.
STEP 9: Moisturize
Moisturizer is the most important skin care item for all types of skincare, be it Korean or any other. Moisturizer helps restore the moisture and natural oils of the skin. It focuses on making skin soft and supple. To make you look well-hydrated.
Choose moisturizer according to your skin type-oily, dry or combination skin type. Choose a formula which can best suit your skin type-gel, lotion or cream. Use it regularly in the morning and in the night.
STEP 10: Sunscreen Protection
Last but not the least, sun protection. Again no-brainer, sun protection is a must regardless of the weather or the country you live in.
Sunscreen protects from harmful UV sunrays which can cause skin pigmentation and sunspots. With continuous sun exposure, the UVA and UVB sunrays can damage the skin cells which can lead to cancer.
A sunscreen with a good SPF is a must. Choose among high SPF and your wear time. It helps in fighting the premature ageing process and protects from cancer.
Use it on the daily basis and reapply if necessary.
Sure, the Korean skincare looks too much like 10 elaborate steps but it will surely leave your skin radiant, flawless and supple.
With above steps, it is necessary to look after your diet and other habits such as sleeping pattern, makeup products, etc.
Drinking enough water, using quality makeup and skincare products, sleeping in on time (8hours) and following a good diet will leave you will with great skin, skin that you will love.
